Arteta Praises a More Dependable Squad and Acknowledges Havertz Injury Blow.

The Gunners' boss remains confident that his squad can continue to cope with player absences after revealing that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

Havertz has been sidelined since August following knee surgery. Originally slated to return at the start of this month, Arteta explained the player hit a snag when increasing his recovery and could not progress “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a team that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update creates a dilemma for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is an option post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to continue in central defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the substantial investment on reinforcements during the summer has resulted in a much stronger position to navigate such absences.

Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit

In response if more options was helping their championship push, the manager agreed. “Indeed, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in certain positions, and now the problems with the defence,” he added.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Star

Addressing the delay highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered additional context. “He followed all protocols. He could not go to the required step and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

The manager conveyed his personal desire to see him return. “The team is keen to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, for me, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his nature. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”

“His fitness history is outstanding, he's usually fit, and I look forward to see him return with the squad and playing because I think it’s going to be a huge lift.”
