Prime TV Selections: Seven Must-Watch Motion Pictures This Week
Pick of the Week
This Satirical Thriller
Coralie Fargeat's unflinching commentary addresses the demanding standards for female beauty as well as the perceived horrors of advancing years. Hollywood star Demi Moore offers an inspired portrayal as Elisabeth, a 50-year-old celebrity demoted to hosting a workout series on the small screen. Pushed out thanks to her deceitful superior Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid, she turns to a secretive and terrifying process called this experimental method. This produces a new version of herself portrayed by Margaret Qualley, resulting in a steadily more toxic connection among both women. Friday 17 October, Paramount+
The Woman in Cabin 10
This classic whodunit story includes the talented actress as Laura, an ace reporter who opts for a hiatus from writing about global conflict to embark on an opulent ship alongside a terminally ill Scandinavian billionaire and donor, her husband, plus additional filthy rich guests. Yet once an enigmatic female disappears from the ship overnight and all passengers claims she was never there, the reporter's sleuthing skills kick in. Streaming currently, the Netflix platform
Presence Film
Steven Soderbergh tests his directorial skills with this clever supernatural story shot entirely from the viewpoint of a ghost. When a household with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their recent residence, the filming device – representing the ghost – shadows their actions. Chloe seems conscious of the poltergeist, and it seems defensive toward her. However, the motive remains? This is an entertaining concept that avoids overstaying, including a revelation that may be unexpected. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Nicolas Cage embraces his cult stardom through this autobiographical spoof. He acts as a narcissistic celebrity playing himself who agrees to a million-dollar gig to visit a festive event at a Mediterranean location for billionaire Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Hired by the CIA to spy on the alleged criminal, Cage's unconventional method proves useful. This Saturday, prime time, Channel 4
The Black Phone Horror
The director's claustrophobic thriller holds up well without requiring a continuation. Located in 1978 Denver, several kidnappings has left the local kids anxious. When Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and held captive in a dungeon, he dreads a terrible outcome. But the non-functional line on the wall keeps ringing, with ghostly voices giving advice, as the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel
This Dramatic Portrait
In the conflict between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for materialism in this director's wonderfully garish true story about the fallen TV preacher and her criminal husband. Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who proclaims early on, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye begin monetising the American public's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of bad interior design, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, though Chastain succeeds to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. October 14th, 1.15am, Film4
This Espionage Thriller
The current week's additional entry from the filmmaker is a spy mystery as sharp as the polo necks worn by Michael Fassbender's intelligence officer. He is tasked to identify a double agent among the team from five suspects – one of whom is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. The two stars are experts of understated style, resulting in an engaging mental battle of deception or honesty takes place. Additional actors participate the clever spy entertainment. This Friday, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, the Sky channel
