Ten individuals convicted of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of disseminating untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the pair's significant age difference.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A circulating false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their complaint alleges that Owens ignored any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
